Northgate Hospital is part of Northumberland, Tyne & Wear NHS Foundation Trust. Mitford Unit is an autism inpatient unit located on the Northgate Hospital site and provides a specialist service for adults with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Mitford Unit required solar panels to harness the sun’s energy. They requested a large installation of solar PV (photovoltaic) panels.
UCS Renewables installed 204 x 250w panels, giving an output of 51kWp. To meet sustainable code levels, the solar PV array had to reach an annual target of 42,000kwh per year, hence the need for 204 panels.
The panels are arranged over 4 roofs, in an aesthetically pleasing formation. They are positioned to avoid roof lights and vents. The mounting brackets we used are Schletter standing seam clamps and rails.
Due to the size of the array and additional solar panels on other buildings in the vicinity, Northern Power Grid insisted on a separate G59 relay in addition to the integrated G59/3 protection in the SMA inverters.
The panels generate plenty of power, even on overcast days, allowing the Mitford Unit to run efficiently and at a low cost. UCS Renewables also won the work to install the data cabling, TV work and CCTV at the unit.
Working on behalf of local firm Castle Building Services, we installed 177 x 250w solar panels to generate clean, renewable energy. The panels were placed in an east-west configuration using a Renusol FS10 East/West mounting system to make use of the limited space available and ensure maximum exposure to the sun. The result is that the solar panels generate green electricity 365 days a year, providing a renewable energy source and allowing Teesside University to meet its sustainability targets.
ViewUCS installed 80 solar panels onto the showroom’s roof. Working with Kingspan, we designed the layout of solar panels so that the array didn’t affect the integrity of the roof. We used drawings supplied by Kingspan and their standing seam brackets in the installation. The result was a roof of commercial solar panels carefully designed and installed to generate solar power for the showroom. The installation looks great and the building runs on solar energy, meaning low running costs for Pulman Skoda’s flagship showroom.
