Client Background

Integral UK is a mechanical and electrical engineering contracting company that operates throughout the United Kingdom. They specialise in technical engineering services with a commitment to creating and maintaining sustainable buildings. Integral approached UCS Renewables in November 2020 with the opportunity to provide a quotation for the design and installation of a solar photovoltaic system at Berwick Leisure Centre. Berwick Leisure Centre is a new leisure facility in Berwick Upon Tweed, located near the former Swan Centre. The new building is scheduled for opening in Autumn 2021 with a 25m swimming pool, spa, fitness suite and seating areas. There is also a sports hall, sensory room, football pitch, play park and parking spaces within the grounds.

The Challenge

UCS provided four varied quotations for the project to suit the renewable energy requirements of the client and any required adjustments as the project progressed. UCS Renewables were awarded the contract in November 2020. The installation was completed in July 2021 based on the final submitted quote and associated design.

What UCS Renewables Did

UCS Renewables designed and installed an 84kWp system featuring two 40kW Solis inverters alongside 248 JA Solar panels. UCS also installed mesh underneath each panel to prevent birds from being able to access the electrical components and cause damage.

The Curve, Teesside University

Working on behalf of local firm Castle Building Services, we installed 177 x 250w solar panels to generate clean, renewable energy. The panels were placed in an east-west configuration using a Renusol FS10 East/West mounting system to make use of the limited space available and ensure maximum exposure to the sun. The result is that the solar panels generate green electricity 365 days a year, providing a renewable energy source and allowing Teesside University to meet its sustainability targets.

Pulman Skoda Durham

UCS installed 80 solar panels onto the showroom’s roof. Working with Kingspan, we designed the layout of solar panels so that the array didn’t affect the integrity of the roof. We used drawings supplied by Kingspan and their standing seam brackets in the installation. The result was a roof of commercial solar panels carefully designed and installed to generate solar power for the showroom. The installation looks great and the building runs on solar energy, meaning low running costs for Pulman Skoda’s flagship showroom.
