Client Background

Geoffrey Robinson is a family-run, mechanical, electrical, and construction services company that is based in the North East of England. They approached UCS Renewables with the opportunity to quote for the installation of a solar PV system at Firmenich’s warehouse in Thirsk. Firmenich are a fragrance and taste development company that have specialised in the science of senses for over 125 years, building a series of offices and research centres around the globe during this time.

The Challenge

The Firmenich warehouse had a pitched standing seam roof meaning UCS Renewables had to design a roof system to maximise the potential output of the solar panel array. UCS Renewables opted to use the S Flex mounting kit for this system.

What UCS Renewables Did

UCS Renewables designed and installed a 24kWp solar photovoltaic system. Our solution utilised a 20kW Solis inverter and 72 Canadian Solar modules. The system was commissioned in June 2021.

Case Studies

Scout Hut, Bo’Ness – Charity Install

The Scout Hut were looking to achieve carbon neutrality. UCS Renewables technical team completed the Solar PV installation within three days across two elevations.

Greenbank, Hartlepool

UCS Renewables completed surveys of the building in addition to reviewing the provided energy efficiency report, to conclude that the roof was suitable for the installation of solar modules. A proposal was approved for SMEES funding for the installation of a 38kW array on a single flat roof.

Our Energy team worked with the provided drawings from McNally & Thompson to compile a suitable design to maximise the use of the available space and optimise solar generation. The installation was challenging as rising energy bills created a surge for solar installations increasing the strain of the supply chain and therefore reducing availability of required materials.
