Client Background
The Challenge
Tees Valley Combined Authority announced the SME Energy Efficiency Scheme (SMEES) allowing small or medium sizes businesses within the area to apply for funding to cover the costs of installing energy or carbon reducing equipment such as Solar PV. The scheme included a fully-funded efficiency audit for each applicant which could be reviewed by local installers to propose an appropriate system. We were keen to help HartlePower access the funding – given the nature of their operation.
The inclusion of real-time monitoring ensures HartlePower was essential so HartlePower can review their generation and carbon savings to compile energy reports to showcase the benefits of renewable energy and how they’re helping Hartlepool to reach their net-zero targets. This would also allow them to track energy savings and re-assign funds to other local projects.
What UCS Renewables Did
UCS Renewables completed surveys of the building in addition to reviewing the provided energy efficiency report, to conclude that the roof was suitable for the installation of solar modules.
A proposal was approved for SMEES funding for the installation of a 38kW array on a single flat roof.
Due to an increase in solar uptake as a result of rising energy costs, there was a shortage of materials globally. One of the key criteria for the funding was that the installation was complete by the end of March 2023, our team worked quickly to acquire suitable material within the required timeframe.
