Client Background

UCS Renewables were contracted to complete the solar installation by Quartz, a mechanical and electrical contractor based only 5 minutes away from the UCS Renewables office. UCS Renewables have worked alongside Quartz across several projects prior to the Nunthorpe Medical Centre project.

The Challenge

The new medical centre was designed to meet the needs of the rising number of patients from the surrounding areas. The project was quick paced to ensure the centre could open its door to welcome staff and patients as soon as possible. Solar PV was incorporated into the building to tie in with the NHS’s decarbonisation plans.

What UCS Renewables Did

UCS Renewables reviewed the drawings provided by the contractor and conducted a site survey to confirm the usable roof space, in this instance, there were two locations on the roof in which solar could be installed.

In June 2022, UCS progressed the installation of the solar PV system to offer thee estimated generation of 16689 kWh of electricity each year.

Project Overview

  • 1 x Solis 15kW Inverter
  • 57 x 320W Solar PV Modules
  • 18.2kW System
  • Installed June 2022

Case Studies

Scout Hut, Bo’Ness – Charity Install

The Scout Hut were looking to achieve carbon neutrality. UCS Renewables technical team completed the Solar PV installation within three days across two elevations.

Greenbank, Hartlepool

UCS Renewables completed surveys of the building in addition to reviewing the provided energy efficiency report, to conclude that the roof was suitable for the installation of solar modules. A proposal was approved for SMEES funding for the installation of a 38kW array on a single flat roof.

Our Energy team worked with the provided drawings from McNally & Thompson to compile a suitable design to maximise the use of the available space and optimise solar generation. The installation was challenging as rising energy bills created a surge for solar installations increasing the strain of the supply chain and therefore reducing availability of required materials.
