Client Background

UCS Renewables were approached by HUSK with a request to install Solar Panels across several properties as part of their pilot construction scheme. HUSK propose a new cosntruction method to convert under utilised parking garages into affordable living spaces, they utilise the existing brickwork to create the shell of the home, completing roof rennovatons and internal structure amendments to design spacious bungalows. The pilot scheme featured the creation of 8 bungalows within the Peterlee area.

The Challenge

The bungalows were designed by HUSK to be as environmentally friendly as possible to increase their sustainability, it was important to consider the running costs of these developments as they were intended for use as social housing. UCS were tasked with designing an array that could generate a majority of the homes' required electricity during the day. The system also needed to be designed for use on a flat roof.

What UCS Renewables Did

UCS Renewables designed a 2kW system featuring six 340w solar panels and a 2kW Solis inverter. As the array was installed on a flat roof, the mounting system was bonded to the roof rather than a ballast.
The systems have produced enough energy to allow the properties to export energy back to the grid during the day, ensuring the homes are cost-effective and sustainable.

The Curve, Teesside University

Working on behalf of local firm Castle Building Services, we installed 177 x 250w solar panels to generate clean, renewable energy. The panels were placed in an east-west configuration using a Renusol FS10 East/West mounting system to make use of the limited space available and ensure maximum exposure to the sun. The result is that the solar panels generate green electricity 365 days a year, providing a renewable energy source and allowing Teesside University to meet its sustainability targets.

Pulman Skoda Durham

UCS installed 80 solar panels onto the showroom’s roof. Working with Kingspan, we designed the layout of solar panels so that the array didn’t affect the integrity of the roof. We used drawings supplied by Kingspan and their standing seam brackets in the installation. The result was a roof of commercial solar panels carefully designed and installed to generate solar power for the showroom. The installation looks great and the building runs on solar energy, meaning low running costs for Pulman Skoda’s flagship showroom.
