Client Background

At UCS Renewables, we are committed to providing innovative renewable energy solutions that drive sustainability and efficiency. Working in conjunction with contractor Wheatleys, our recent project at Regent Street in Leeds is a perfect example of how solar technology can be seamlessly integrated into modern developments to support long-term energy savings and environmental responsibility.

The Challenge

We were commissioned to install a solar energy system on a new student accommodation building in Leeds. With sustainability being a key focus for the developers, our role was to provide a reliable, high-performance renewable energy solution to support the building’s energy needs while reducing its carbon footprint.

What UCS Renewables Did

To maximise energy generation and storage capacity, we installed a state-of-the-art solar panel system on the building’s flat roof. The system was securely mounted using a Van Der Valk ballasted mounting kit, ensuring stability and efficiency without the need for roof penetration.

In addition to the solar panels, we integrated a 40kWh Solax battery storage system, allowing surplus energy to be stored and used during peak demand periods. This ensures consistent energy supply, reduces reliance on the grid, and maximises cost savings for the accommodation provider.

To enhance visibility and engagement with the project’s sustainability efforts, we also installed a Siebert public display. This display provides real-time data on energy generation and CO2 savings, helping students and visitors understand the positive impact of renewable energy.

Key Features

  • Reduced Carbon Footprint – The solar installation significantly lowers CO2 emissions, contributing to a more sustainable future.
  • Energy Savings – The combination of solar panels and battery storage helps reduce reliance on the national grid, cutting down electricity costs.
  • Educational Impact – The Siebert public display informs and inspires students by showcasing the benefits of renewable energy in real-time.
  • Seamless Integration – The system was installed efficiently with minimal disruption to the building and its future occupants.

The Outcome

This project at Regent Street, Leeds, is a testament to our expertise in delivering bespoke renewable energy solutions that align with modern sustainability goals. By harnessing the power of solar energy and smart storage solutions, UCS Renewables continues to support innovative developments in reducing energy costs and environmental impact.

Case Studies

Scout Hut, Bo’Ness – Charity Install

The Scout Hut were looking to achieve carbon neutrality. UCS Renewables technical team completed the Solar PV installation within three days across two elevations.

Greenbank, Hartlepool

UCS Renewables completed surveys of the building in addition to reviewing the provided energy efficiency report, to conclude that the roof was suitable for the installation of solar modules. A proposal was approved for SMEES funding for the installation of a 38kW array on a single flat roof.

Our Energy team worked with the provided drawings from McNally & Thompson to compile a suitable design to maximise the use of the available space and optimise solar generation. The installation was challenging as rising energy bills created a surge for solar installations increasing the strain of the supply chain and therefore reducing availability of required materials.
