It’s been a busy year so far for the NHS as they continue to work on their Net Zero targets and announce the rollout of new Green Energy Plans.

Working in the Electric Vehicle (EV) market, UCS Renewables has been particularly interested in their commitment to EV charging accessibility and their commitment to the electrification of their fleet.

Key steps in their switch to emission-free transport have been the announcement, during COP26, of the trial of electric ambulances which boast a 300-mile capability before needing to charge. This ambulance is already being utilised within Birmingham with hopes over coming years to extend its usage nationwide.

The NHS Supply Chain are testing the usage of all-electric heavy goods vehicles. To date, there are 8 trucks in operation, transporting medical necessities in refrigerated units. The trucks are monitored daily, and the data is being compiled to generate a report to *hopefully* influence the future use of electric heavy goods vehicles within the transport industry.

In June, NHS Property services released their Green Energy Plan which details the development of an EV strategy to install charging points with guidance to complete the switch of 800 service and 130 company vehicles to electric by 2025.

UCS Renewables have been working alongside James Cook University Hospital to assist with their own EV charging progression.

We recently completed the installation of six dual charging units across 3 of the hospital car parks. Four of the charging units are accessible to the public in the V3 and Residents car parks, the remaining two dual chargers are dedicated to NHS staff.

Throughout the project, the UCS team have communicated with James Cook Hospital to ensure the infrastructure is in place to support public and private charging at the tap of a phone or RFID card. The chargers have been onboarded with a back office system that allows complete control of the units to include tariffs, remote maintenance, firmware updates, and more.

We will continue to offer maintenance to the chargers and ensure they are running at peak performance.

Our EV Business Manager, Shaun, even took our electric van for a quick trip to test out the new charging units!

The EV team here at UCS Renewables are proud to be supporting our local hospital’s commitment to electric vehicle (EV) charging and are dedicated to extending the town’s electric vehicle infrastructure.
