Client Background

This client was introduced to UCS Renewables through Tesla’s ‘Approved Installers’ referral scheme. The web-based scheme connects leads interested in Tesla Powerwall energy storage solutions with a local installer. In this case, the lead was based in Darlington and was recommended our company. Our office is based in Middlesbrough but offers renewable energy services throughout the United Kingdom.

The Challenge

Once we received the lead from Tesla, we contacted the client to confirm his interest in the Tesla Powerwall and check for additional services such as solar PV and electric vehicle charging. This client wanted to incorporate additional solar PV panels with his existing solar PV system to produce and store excess energy produced by the system within the Tesla Powerwall.

What UCS Renewables Did

We designed and installed a solar and battery solution featuring six 365w Canadian Solar panels with a Solis 2kW inverter. The 2.1kWh solar system was paired with the 13.5kWh Tesla Powerwall 2 and associated gateway.

The Tesla Powerwall offers an emergency backup system coupled with storm warnings. The system will notify our client of upcoming storms and unplanned power loss. The Tesla automatically discharges stored energy to power home appliances, coupled with solar panels the system can produce an uninterrupted supply of energy until grid power is restored.

The Tesla mobile app allows our client to monitor stored energy, charging times, power flow, and more.

The Curve, Teesside University

Working on behalf of local firm Castle Building Services, we installed 177 x 250w solar panels to generate clean, renewable energy. The panels were placed in an east-west configuration using a Renusol FS10 East/West mounting system to make use of the limited space available and ensure maximum exposure to the sun. The result is that the solar panels generate green electricity 365 days a year, providing a renewable energy source and allowing Teesside University to meet its sustainability targets.

Pulman Skoda Durham

UCS installed 80 solar panels onto the showroom’s roof. Working with Kingspan, we designed the layout of solar panels so that the array didn’t affect the integrity of the roof. We used drawings supplied by Kingspan and their standing seam brackets in the installation. The result was a roof of commercial solar panels carefully designed and installed to generate solar power for the showroom. The installation looks great and the building runs on solar energy, meaning low running costs for Pulman Skoda’s flagship showroom.
