Client Background

This client was introduced to UCS Renewables through Tesla’s ‘Approved Installers’ referral scheme. The web-based scheme connects leads interested in Tesla Powerwall energy storage solutions with a local installer.  This particular lead was located in Danby Wiske, Northallerton. After initial contact, the client expressed their interest in installing solar panels and an electric vehicle charger alongside the Tesla Powerwall.

The Challenge

Once UCS confirmed the client’s renewable energy requirements, we provided a quotation for the installation of a turnkey energy solution. The client opted to install the Tesla Powerwall and solar PV so that excess generated electricity could be stored for later use. The chosen electric vehicle charger, the Zappi, integrated into the system to charge the client’s electric vehicle using solar energy. They can opt to charge directly from the panels or from the battery depending on electricity demand.

What UCS Renewables Did

We designed and installed a solar and battery solution featuring twelve 390w JA Solar panels with a Solis 3.6kW inverter. The 4.68kWh solar system was paired with the 13.5kWh Tesla

Powerwall 2, associated gateway and a 7kW Zappi charger.

The Tesla Powerwall app allows the client to control how energy is used within their home. They can choose to divert generated electricity to the Powerwall or their electric vehicle charger.

During the night, they can control if energy is drawn from the grid or the Powerwall.

The Curve, Teesside University

Working on behalf of local firm Castle Building Services, we installed 177 x 250w solar panels to generate clean, renewable energy. The panels were placed in an east-west configuration using a Renusol FS10 East/West mounting system to make use of the limited space available and ensure maximum exposure to the sun. The result is that the solar panels generate green electricity 365 days a year, providing a renewable energy source and allowing Teesside University to meet its sustainability targets.

Pulman Skoda Durham

UCS installed 80 solar panels onto the showroom’s roof. Working with Kingspan, we designed the layout of solar panels so that the array didn’t affect the integrity of the roof. We used drawings supplied by Kingspan and their standing seam brackets in the installation. The result was a roof of commercial solar panels carefully designed and installed to generate solar power for the showroom. The installation looks great and the building runs on solar energy, meaning low running costs for Pulman Skoda’s flagship showroom.
